Washington is worried about the rising tensions in the East China Sea
The United States is " deeply worried" following the establishment of a China whose route includes the islands under Japanese control of " air defense identification zone" , said Saturday, Nov. 23 Secretary U.S. State John Kerry. The new area includes East China Sea archipelago Senkaku , controlled by Japan but claimed by Beijing.
Japan has strongly reacted to the announcement in Beijing warned against " an escalation " bilateral tensions around the archipelago , which would be "very dangerous" , according to a statement from the Japanese Ministry .
" This unilateral decision [ China ] is an attempt to change the status quo in the East China Sea . An escalation will increase tensions in the region and create the risk of an incident," warned Mr. Kerry said in a statement , currently in Geneva for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
" The freedom of overflight and other international rules on the use of airspace and waters are essential to the prosperity, stability and security in the Pacific. We urge China not to execute his threat take measures against aircraft which would not recognize or does not obey orders from Beijing . We have urged China to observe caution and restraint , and consult Japan and other affected parties in the region " the new Chinese air defense area .
The creation of this new zone is accompanied by rules to be observed all aircraft crossing , otherwise intervention of the armed forces , said the Chinese Ministry of Defense said in a statement . Aircraft shall provide such accurate flight plan , clearly display their nationality, and maintain radio communications allowing them to " respond quickly and appropriately to requests identification " of the Chinese authorities .
The new zone is in force since Saturday 3 pm ( Paris ) , and the air forces of the People's Liberation Army announced in late afternoon having completed their first regular patrol.
